Do you need an Orange County Lawyer?

Orange County Lawyer

If you have committed an offence or want to proceed with a civil case and live in Orange County, you should appoint an Orange County lawyer. Why? While most laws in the USA are similar, there can be some variations between States. When you are facing State charges or depending on the rules of that particular State for example in a divorce case, it makes more sense to work with someone familiar with local rules and legislation than an expert in another State.

In theory an attorney with local knowledge should be more valuable and be better equipped to represent you in your legal battles. Of course it doesn’t always work out that way. There are bad lawyers in every State and that includes Orange County.

So how do you avoid the bad ones? When you need an attorney, first look for personal recommendations from family and friends. While they may never have needed the services of the type of lawyer you need, they will have probably had some contact with legal firms over the years. They may be able to contact their legal counsel and ask for a recommendation on your behalf. Good attorneys will only recommend those people they believe in as they know that their reputation would be affected if they promote bad lawyers.

If you cannot find personal recommendations, then interview a couple of different attorneys before deciding on whom to appoint to represent you. Trust your gut instinct. If you don’t think the person is listening to you or interested in the case but purely sees you as a source of legal fees, move onto the next person. You can ask the lawyer how long he has been practicing, how many cases similar to yours he has won and what he views your chances of success to be. You could ask for references from previous clients but given the confidential nature of most legal cases, these are unlikely to be forthcoming.

Don’t fall for someone who makes great promises as one thing you will find with the Law is that it is never 100% clear cut. There are always mitigating factors that can affect the outcome of a case. A lawyer should learn this early in his career and so will not make promises he cannot keep.

Always ask about the fees that you will be charged and if possible get a written estimate of costs. While you do not always want to appoint the cheapest attorney, you do need to be sure you can afford the costs involved in any legal action. In some cases you may be entitled to free legal representation i.e. if you have low earnings, have been charged with a criminal offence and if convicted could end up spending time in jail.

There are thousands of people to choose from so I am sure you will have no problem finding an Orange County Lawyer to meet your needs.
